Northwestern High School is a comprehensive public high school located at 6900 Park Heights Avenue in the upper northwestern section of Baltimore City. The school sits on a beautiful campus surrounded by beautiful tall trees and shrubbery. Northwestern High School offers four career pathways and operates on an eight period instructional day, which allows students to graduate with a maximum of 28 credits. Upon graduation, students are qualified to enter into two or four year colleges, the military or the career market.
In 1921, the school site at Park Heights Avenue and Falstaff Road began as the farm of the former Republican State Senator O. E. Weller. Nine years later, in 1930, the Hochschild and Kohn families purchased the estate who in turn relinquished it to the city of Baltimore in 1962. Plans were then made for the development of a new high school for the northwestern portion of the city. In 1966, Northwestern High School opened its doors to 10th and 11th graders with a population of 1000. Over the next 43 years, Northwestern graduated over 20,000 students who have gone on to become successful and productive citizens of our country. Today, Northwestern houses grades 9 – 12 with approximately 550 students with 55 faculty and staff.
